The 3 Pillars of Time Management and Meal Prep (Part 1)

There are three main pillars to time management.

  1. Awareness/Discovery:     this is knowing what  time is actually available
  2. Prioritization:    the decision of what things are most important to do and in what order
  3. Application:       putting Awareness and Prioritization together to act with follow through

As you can probably guess by watching others, or perhaps by a keen and honest sense of self...most people fail on number three.

In today's blog, I am going to teach you how to time manage #likeaBOSS so you don't have to unnecessarily worry about these things working together for you from supermarket to table ever again.

Yes I realize some of us have spouses, kids, work, school, students, employees, goals, workouts, or insert your thing _______here to keep up with. I know! Times can be hard. This used to be me. I was the woman who rationalized eating out 12 times a week because I "didn't have time to cook." I have the receipts! However, you and I both know that for anyone with financial goals and a budget...that just isn't sustainable. We were not made to stay on the struggle bus forever, let me show you how to get off!

We begin by returning to our list of the three main pillars to time management: Awareness, Prioritization, and Application. The fact is, those of us living in the free world all have the same 168 hours a week. How can you make your time work for YOU?

PILLAR 1: Awareness/Discovery

You are on this page because you probably have a goal to improve your life and you are thinking about the food that goes into your body. This means, you see that feeding yourself is yes, a basic need, but also a priority in the sense of what you are putting in; when you are eating it; and how much it costs.

For this reason, you must take a panoramic shot at a week in your life and choose a time allotment that you can use for meal prep. To use myself as an example, when I first started meal prepping this was two hours on a Sunday. Maybe for you it is more or less....this part does not matter numbers wise. What matters most is that you are honest with yourself.

I can spare _________ hours weekly to meal prep for myself/me and my family. The day is ____________ and the time is _____________.

BE CONSISTENT with your commitment to this time. Creating the habit properly in the beginning is what will allow for flex time later.

Helpful hints to keep in mind as you discover what time you actually have available:

  • work schedule
  • kid's schedule (flex time)
  • family schedule
  • time of the day when you feel most "alert"
  • set up/clean up time*:
    • *this is up to you to include in your total or not...I like to think of these as separate, since I don't mind doing chores the next day and I live alone...so dirty dishes left in the sink ain't a problem unless I see it as one!
