Morning Star Farms "Grillers Original" Veggie Burger Review

I am on the PROWL to find a high protein, good tasting veggie burger. I am also in search of other quality sources of protein in my new vegetarian/pescatarian eating style. The Morning Star Farms Grillers Original has become my current favorite frozen burger. Here’s why.

So far, I have tried 3 different store bought frozen veggie burgers, and this is my review of my favorite frozen one so far, the Grillers Original by Morningstar Farms. I don’t keep buying or eating things solely for nutritional purposes. It has to BE GOOD FOR ME and TASTE GOOD TO ME. This one passes and I have three categories for this review. Let’s talk macros, taste, and prep.

  1. MACROS per burger

    Protein 16g Carbohydrates 8g Fat 5g Fiber 4g

These work really well for me. I usually do a double burger so that I am left feeling full and I have a nice high protein lunch or dinner option. The macros are great for the level of carbs as well, as I usually do NET carbs…which is carb-fiber. For this its only 4g carbs! Total calories are at 130 per serving and 4 patties come in a bag. Overall I am happy with the macros of the burger and they can fit a variety of eating styles.

  2. TASTE PROFILE

The taste of the burger was a good blend of onion and other veggies and wheat. I liked that it was purposefully left a bit basic with seasonings, because it lender itself to be topped with other flavors. It had a crisp outside when prepared by skillet and was a little chewy in the middle. The texture was great. Firm and able to withstand the cooking method, including being flipped. A few other burgers I tried fell apart when flipped or soaked into my bun.

I topped my double veggie burger with tomato, mayo, ketchup and a little shredded cheese. It took well to these vegetarian toppings. The thickness of the burgers are about a quarter of an inch…with two on there you will be fine.

See the thickness in the images below.

  3. PREP PROCESS

I love that it is as big as a standard burger bun. This one doesn’t disappear into the middle. Prep for this was very quick and I used it from frozen to skillet in a preheated pan. It took about 8-10 minutes to cook on medium after the initial high heat. It withstood the flipping and even got a little char on it. Very nice. It did not give off a strong odor which I liked as well.As expected with a frozen burger, prep was very easy. The BEST quality of this burger prep is that it doesn’t fall apart.

The burger would be great to bring to a BBQ so you can enjoy having it as an alternative to meat burgers. These burgers are also green at for a quick afternoon or evening meal if you forgot to prep. The protein is there, the patty can handle toppings, and it has the ability to get a nice crisp char on it without being watery. These are usually on sale 2 for $7. Good buy in my opinion, considering the fact that veggie burgers in restaurants are around $12 a pop. They also come in a resealable package which helps to keep things fresh.
